On 12 October, 2008, World Grand Champion, Pride’s Winning Edge, was laid to rest at Jacoby Farm, Columbia, Tennessee. Three times a World’s Champion, Pride’s Winning Edge was sired by the 1984 Junior World Grand Champion, Pride’s Genius and out of the multi-title producing mare, My Faith. My Faith's progeny can account for 25 World Championships. She is the dam of Pride's June P., the dam of World Champions Pride's Most Of Gold, Coin's Bound For Glory, The Finalist, Final's June, and Pride's Good As Gold. Winning Edge was bred and raised by Bob and Barbara McKinley of Spring Hill, Tennessee and began his training under the direction of Tom Kakassey and Eddie Tuck. In 1992, Edge and then-trainer David Landrum garnered a reserve champion tie in the Aged Stallion division at the National Celebration. Two years later, Edge returned to the Aged Stallion division at the Celebration and was crowned World Champion with Tim Gray in the irons. The following year, in 1995, Edge demonstrated his versatility by teaming with Victoria Martocci in amateur competition. That pairing proved to be extremely successful as Edge and Victoria earned Amateur Stallion World Championship honors followed by a spotlight ride as Amateur World Grand Champions.
Following an illustrious show ring career, Winning Edge moved on to the breeding barn with occasional returns to the show ring with his new owner, Bud Thomas, resulting in a Reserve World Championship title in the Amateur Stallions division at the 1997 Celebration. Edge proved to be as noteworthy in the breeding arena as he had been in the show ring. Pride’s Winning Edge sired such notables as World Grand Champion, The Sharper Edge, World Champions Charming Edge, Ultra Edge, Crackerjack Edge, and Ike Turner, Reserve World Champions, Designed By Edge, A Major Win, Miss Nutbush ’96, and other such notables as Tammy Winnette, Pride’s Revved And Ready, Lively Prospect, Doc’s Cutting Edge, and Pride’s Winning Again.
Pride’s Winning Edge was laid to rest in the pasture he called home during his retirement years. “Pap gave so much to my family, it only seems fitting that we give this little back to him,” said Chris Hazelwood, Pride’s Winning Edge’s owner. “I told Bud (Thomas) when we bought him that Edge had earned his retirement and that if I gave him nothing else, it would be a place to run free.” He did just that. Jacoby Farm was his home and he had full reign over it. He is buried in the pasture where he spent his last days.
